Drama Movies

Drama movies often aren't always easy to classify, as many of them can fit quite neatly into other genres (mystery, thriller, true stories, romance and so on). This, of course, is true of many types of movie, but perhaps especially true of this genre of film.

A successful feature film that many would perhaps associate with drama, is Titanic; a big budget fictional romantic tale set aboard the ill-fated voyager. Starring Leonardo Dicaprioa and Kate Winslet it once held the title of the most successful movie of all time. Director James Cameron received an Oscar for the movie, which gained 11 in total.

Stephen King's short story, Rita Hayworth and Shawshank Redemption, was adapted to the silver screen (as 'The Shawshank Redemption') and is widely considered one of the greatest movies of all time. It sits at number one on the IMDB list of the top 250 films ever, and has gained in popularity over the years, in spite of a not wholly impressive box office display. Fantastic performances by Tim Robbins and Morgan Freeman still captivate home audiences today, courtesy of high DVD and Blu-Ray sales.

Other dramatic movies held in very high regard include the Godfather 1 & 2 (starring the wonderful Marlon Brando), Pulp Fiction and the classic 1950's murder trial drama 12 Angry Men.
